As a young child, I grew up in a humble family, living about 5 km away from my school. Every day, I would have to navigate a long, rugged path to get there. The trees around were densely packed and suffocating. Unlike many of my peers who were dropped off by their parents, I had to make the journey alone. In the evenings, the deathly stillness would often fill me with a sense of unease.

One day, a tiny hummingbird with a clear, melodious voice appeared, like a bolt of lightning shattering the darkness before dawn. Its petite body glided over my head, then flew back, landing gently on a branch and staring at me, as if signaling that it was safe to walk ahead. From that day on, every time I was on my way home, the hummingbird would appear, and I no longer felt afraid of the night, knowing that it was waiting for me. Those were some of the happiest times of my elementary school years.

However, when my family moved to other cities, I had to bid farewell to my feathered friend. Before leaving, I ran back to look for the hummingbird, but it was nowhere to be found, a regret that has stayed with me ever since. Perhaps the bird already knew what I wanted to tell it, or it simply didn't want to see me sad.

Now, as an adult with a family of my own, I find myself picking up my children from school, perhaps out of a nostalgic connection to my childhood experience. One day, while watching television, I came across a live report about the hummingbird's feeding environment. The report showed a thin hummingbird drinking water on the steps, where the water was a bit dirty, likely left behind after a heavy rain. Yet, the hummingbird drank regardless of the potential danger.

Seeing this, I was deeply moved and felt an overwhelming desire to help. I have since been actively involved in various public welfare activities aimed at protecting birds and their habitats. Over the past two years, I have dedicated myself to studying hummingbirds, seeking solutions to improve their feeding conditions.
